Bridgewater Extends Shared Court Services For Another 3 Years With Somerville

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater is extending its shared services agreement of its municipal court with Somerville for another three years.

The Township Council unanimously approved a resolution at the June 16 meeting authorizing the renewal that will run retroactively from Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027.

"This has been a successful program over the years, and obviously, we want to continue it," said Council President Howard Norgalis at the meeting.

"It continues to be a good program and has benefited both communities," said Mayor Matthew Moench at the meeting.

The shared court system, located in Bridgewater’s Municipal Complex at 100 Commons Way, allows both municipalities to streamline judicial operations, optimize resources, and reduce costs for taxpayers while maintaining high standards of court services.

"Bridgewater and Somerville have long demonstrated that shared services can deliver real value to our residents," said Moench in a statement. "This renewed agreement continues that tradition of regional cooperation, responsible governance, and fiscal prudence."

The shared court will continue using Bridgewater’s existing courtroom facilities, judge’s chambers, and equipment to serve both municipalities.
