BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Chris Corsini, who serves as Municipal Attorney for Bridgewater, has thrown his hat into the ring and is running for Somerset County Surrogate.
Corsini will be running on the Republican ticket to fill the vacancy left behind by Peapack Gladstone Borough Council President John Sweeney's death on Aug. 6.
"John Sweeney's tragic passing shocked and saddened all of us. John was a man deeply committed to his family, his community, and our shared profession. He would have made an outstanding Surrogate," said Corsini in a statement.

Corsini, who also serves as Municipal Attorney in Middlesex, Flemington, and Readington, said that he didn't have any intention on running for any office before, "but the circumstances of this vacancy are so unique and tragic that the only responsible decision was to answer Chairwoman DiFrancesco's call to serve."
"My decision was, in no small part, also affected by the many calls of support I received, including from our Commissioner candidate, Nick Cuozzo, and many of my friends in my hometown of Bridgewater, including Mayor Moench," said Corsini. "I was further moved by the support I received from our excellent candidate for governor, Jack Ciattarelli, whose commitment to service and the betterment of our community has always been an inspiration to me."

For the campaign, Corsini said he plans on focusing on honoring John Sweeney's legacy.
"There's a lot of work left to do in the last 70 days of this campaign," said Corsini. "And I am happy to pitch in and help our team successfully cross the finish line on November 4th."
