Car Crashes Through Bridgewater Home With Residents Inside

The home sustained extensive structural damage and was condemned by the Bridgewater Township Building Inspector, said police.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A car crashed through a home in Bridgewater with residents inside causing extensive structural damage, said Police Sgt. Kevin Florczak.

On Friday at around 4:54 p.m., the Bridgewater Township Police Department and Finderne Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle into a home at 540 Union Ave. in Bridgewater.

The preliminary investigation found that a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, operated by Robert Muller, 75, of Bridgewater, was driving west on Union Avenue when, "for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and hit the side of the home," said Florczak.

Muller had minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset for treatment.

Several people were inside the home at the time of the crash. All were able to exit safely and were not injured, said Florczak.

The home sustained extensive structural damage and was condemned by the Bridgewater Township Building Inspector, said Florczak.

The incident remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Cole Taggert at 908-722-4111, extension 4083, or call the Bridgewater TIPS line at 877-660-INFO (4636).

The Finderne Fire Department, which covers the southeast section of Bridgewater Township, is always looking for volunteers.

Volunteers are offered complete protective gear, free training, LOSAP (Length of Service Award Programs), a pay-per-call incentive, a life insurance/disability plan, and an in-house gym.
