Discolored Water Reported In Somerset County: Here's Why
New Jersey American Water sent out an alert to residents on Wednesday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Discolored water in New Jersey American Water's Raritan System is being reported on Wednesday.
"Higher levels of sodium permanganate, used to treat the water at our Raritan Millstone Water Treatment Plant, have caused a slight pinkish hue in the water in the Bridgewater area," said NJ American Water in an alert on Wednesday. "Though there is no impact to drinking water quality and the water meets drinking water standards, you may wish to refrain from doing laundry during this time."
NJ American Water said they will be flushing hydrants which may result in low pressure and/or discoloration for some customers to help clear the system.
