BOUND BROOK, NJ — After a fire ripped through a family's home in Bound Brook, a fundraiser has been set up to help them get back on their feet.

The fire broke out at 351 Grove Ave. on Wednesday at around 6:27 a.m. with the family and pets trapped inside.

"Acting quickly, officers secured a nearby ladder and rescued a resident from a second-floor window," said Bound Brook Police Sergeant Robert Pikulin.

Additional residents, along with two dogs and a cat, were evacuated from the home by firefighters, said Pikulin.

"Tragedy struck our household yesterday morning when a fire burst out and ripped apart our home. Two of the three kids were in the house with another nearby. My son, Joel Orellana, a senior at Bound Brook High School, called emergency services, saving not only my life but his brothers' and other family members," said Teresa Lopez on a GoFundMe fundraising website.
