Hillsborough Library Hosts Health Discussion

Panel of five health experts to discuss basic health Issues at the library.

SOMERSET COUNTY NJ - Somerset County Library System of New Jersey and Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County know that taking care of yourself and your family is an important job and they want to help you make decisions that are right for you.

On Tuesday, November 15, 7-9 p.m., SCLSNJ and LVSC will team up for Let’s Talk About Health, a panel discussion with five local health experts, including a doctor, several nurses, and a dental hygienist, who will address questions about health at SCLSNJ's Hillsborough Library branch, located at 379 S. Branch Road in Hillsborough. An SCLSNJ librarian will be available to help you find more information in the Library and online. Let’s Talk About Health is supported by a charitable contribution from Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

“Our goals are to help members of the community better understand general health-related issues and the impact of their decisions on their overall health,” said Aimee Lam, LVSC executive director. “We want to arm participants with health literacy knowledge so that they feel more confident when interacting with health professionals, as well as more confident in making health decisions for themselves and their families.”

Meet the Let’s Talk About Health Panelists

Ella Copoulos M.D.
Dr. Copoulos is a retired Internal Medicine physician. She has worked in the fields of adult medicine, adolescent medicine, and occupational medicine. Dr. Copoulos will discuss the yearly checkup and periodic health assessments, common misunderstandings about health and medicine, and how to prepare for a visit to the doctor.

Susan Georgeson RN, MSN
Ms. Georgeson serves on the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey and is a School Nurse at the Far Hills Country Day School. Ms. Georgeson has been a school nurse for ten years, working with students from kindergarten through high school. She will discuss immunization for school age children, along with sending medications to school, what to do if your child is not feeling well, and interacting with the school nurse.

Amy Gole, RNC, Ed.M
Ms. Gole is a nurse educator who is passionate about keeping moms and babies healthy. She is certified in maternal/newborn nursing and is a fellow of the Academy of Lamaze Certified Educators. Ms. Gole will discuss topics related to pregnancy, newborn care, early parenting and general healthy living.

Sally Sorbello, RDH, BS
Ms. Sorbello has been working in dentistry for more than 45 years. She has lectured to dental hygiene students at Union County College and has taught many dental health classes in public schools. She loves helping people improve their oral health and will address caring for your teeth and your children’s teeth, the importance of dental hygiene and health, and working with your dentist.

Karen A. VanRavenswaay, BSN, RNC.
Ms. VanRavenswaay is a community educator of mental health issues, recognition, and treatment, and a retired certified mental health nurse. She worked in the mental health field for over fifteen years, and believes that the stigma of mental illness can be eliminated with education. Ms. VanRavenswaay will discuss the signs and symptoms of depression and addiction and how to get help.
