Drunk Driver Who Fatally Hit Trucker On Side Of I-78 Arrested: Prosecutor

READINGTON, NJ — A drunk driver who fatally hit a pedestrian standing outside his truck on I-78 and fled is under arrest, said Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson on Tuesday.
Antoni E. Xicay Mazariegos, 24, of Nanuet, NY, has been charged with second-degree death by auto, among other related offenses.
On Sept. 29, New Jersey State Police responded to a report of a pedestrian hit alongside Interstate 78 West in Readington Township.

Troopers and an off-duty emergency medical technician found Marshall J. Vizinat, 57, of Baton Rouge, LA, who was subsequently taken to Hunterdon Medical Center and later pronounced dead due to his injuries.
During their investigation, troopers identified a pick-up truck with an attached trailer as the motor vehicle responsible for hitting the victim, who had been standing outside of his vehicle, said Robeson.

Mazariegos was found to have been driving the pick-up truck at the time of the crash and left the scene without stopping, all of which he was under the influence of alcohol, said Robeson.
Following the crash, Mazariegos continued driving west until he exited I-78 in Tewksbury Township and then hit a separate motor vehicle, said Robeson.
Mazariegos was later charged with second-degree death by auto, second-degree leaving the scene of a crash which resulted in the death of the victim, and third-degree strict liability vehicular homicide.
Mazariegos was released onto pretrial monitoring with conditions following his first appearance.
He faces a term of imprisonment between five and ten years and a fine not to exceed $150,000 for the second-degree charges.
