Man Sentenced In Shooting Death Of Bridgewater Man In 2023

Maurice Pierce was sentenced for the death of Jameer Outsey of Bridgewater, who was a former Somerset County football standout.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Piscataway man was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of Jameer Outsey of Bridgewater in Union County in 2023.

Union County Superior Court Judge Candido Rodriguez Jr. sentenced Maurice Pierce, age 25, on Friday for first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Pierce must serve at least 85 percent of that sentence before being eligible for parole, announced Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 12, 2023, Elizabeth Police Officers went to the area of North Broad Street and Magnolia Avenue in Elizabeth for reports of a man with a gunshot wound.

Police found Outsey, who was taken to a local area hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead, according to Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady.

Outsey of Bridgewater, is a 2014 graduate of Franklin Township High School who went on to play Division I college football.

Outsey signed for the Iowa Hawkeyes after graduating from Franklin Township High School and then transferred to the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, according to his senior year football profile.

"We are grateful for the hard work of Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady, Detective Sergeant Lewis King of Kean University Police Department, who was on loan to the UCPO Homicide Task Force, and Elizabeth Police Detective John Londono, on this case," said Daniel. "I hope this sentencing can bring some relief to those mourning Mr. Outsey."
