Motorcyclist Ejected, Critically Injured After Hitting Deer In Somerset County

The deer reportedly ran out directly in front of the motorcyclist as he was driving early Monday morning, said Bridgewater Police.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A motorcyclist and Bridgewater man was hospitalized with serious injuries after crashing into a deer on Monday morning in Bridgewater, said Police Captain Kevin Tennant.

At around 3:34 a.m., the Bridgewater Township Police Department responded to a motorcycle crash on Union Avenue, just before Chimney Rock Road.

The preliminary investigation found that a 2000 BMW K1200LT Motorcycle was traveling west on Union Avenue in the right lane.

About 275 feet east of the Chimney Rock Road intersection, the BMW hit a deer that ran north across the road, directly in front of the operator, said Tennant.

The motorcyclist, Ezequiel Rios, 45, of Bridgewater, was ejected from the motorcycle and thrown about 150 feet west on Union Avenue, where he came to rest in the left lane, said Tennant.

Rios was taken to Robert Wood Johnson, New Brunswick, with serious injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
