A 19-year-old North Plainfield man has been charged for the sexual assault of 11-year-old girl whom he told authorities was his girlfriend.

A 19-year-old North Plainfield man has been charged for the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl whom he told authorities was his girlfriend, reports say.
According to My Central Jersey, an affidavit filed in Superior Court said Roberto Amaya told authorities he had sexual relations with the girl in his basement apartment on Sept. 14. The affidavit also says the 11-year-old girl told authorities they also had sexual relations on Aug. 15.
Nj.com reports the girl was interviewed by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit on Monday and told detectives she had sexual intercourse with a man named “Carlos” in the “early hours” of that day.

Amaya has since been charged with first-degree sexual assault.
