Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Plan For Veterans Appreciation Day

Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano has announced that his office will participate at the Veterans Appreciation Day.

Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano has announced that his office will participate at the Veterans Appreciation Day at Central Jersey Regional Airport (47N), 1034 Millstone River Rd., Hillsborough, NJ 08844 Saturday, Oct. 8, from 1 to 5 p.m.

“The Veterans Appreciation Day is an event to help the Hillsborough Rotary Club raise funds for various charities and foundations dedicated to assisting active U.S. military and veterans,” said Sheriff Frank Provenzano.

“This free-admission event is a fun-filled day that includes meeting veterans and active military so we can celebrate and show our appreciation of their commitment to keeping our country safe,” he said. “Come out and enjoy the entertainment, food, community groups and much more. It’s events like this that make our country stronger.

“We look forward to meeting you,” said Sheriff Provenzano. “You will have an opportunity to see a K-9 demonstration, drop off outdated medications through Project Medicine Drop and pick up general information about the county’s Sheriff’s Office.”

A Sheriff’s K-9 officer and his K-9 partner will provide an overview of the K-9 Unit and information about the dog’s unique training and attributes. The K-9 Unit is available to visit schools and community groups. For information contact Officer David Daneker at 908-231-7040, ext. 9.

“Visitors are invited to drop off unwanted, unused and outdated medicines, especially potentially dangerous pharmaceuticals in a Project Medicine Drop box that will be on-site,” said Sheriff Provenzano. “The Sheriff’s Office will maintain custody of the deposited drugs and will properly dispose of them.”

Project Medicine Drop is a multi-location drop-off program that allows you to discard unused prescription medications every day throughout the year.

“County residents have shown amazing support of this and other drop-off programs through the Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “Our community and loved ones are safer because of their efforts.”

Residents can take advantage of the Sheriff’s Office medicine-collection drop box 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no questions asked. The mailbox-style receptacle is located on the lower level of the Somerset County Administration Building at 20 Grove St., Somerville, NJ 08876, near the entrance to the Sheriff’s Office. Additional drop boxes are conveniently located at participating municipalities and also are accessible 24/7: Bernards Township Police Department, 1 Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 (908-766-1122); Branchburg Police Department, 590 Old York Road at Route 202 North, Branchburg, NJ 08876 (908-526-3830); Franklin Township Police Department, 495 DeMott Lane, Somerset, NJ 08873 (732-873-2300); Hillsborough Township Police Department, 379 South Branch Road, Hillsborough NJ 08844 (908-369-4323); and North PlainfieldPolice Department, 263 Somerset St., North Plainfield, NJ 07060 (908-769-2937).

Since September 2010, the Sheriff’s Office has collected 9,746 pounds of medications through Project Medicine Drop, the five county-run drive-thru drop-offs held annually at scheduled Household Hazardous Waste events, national medicine-collection programs and at festivals.
