Township Starting Project to End Brown Road Flooding
This drainage project will help residents of Brown and Carteret roads.

With residents in the area of Carteret and Brown roads dealing with flooding in major storms, the township is beginning its Chambers Brook Drainage Improvement project to alleviate the problems they are facing.
The council recently approved a contract with Keller & Kirkpatrick for $47,900 to get going on the project.
“This is the first phase to eliminate flooding,” said township engineer Robert Bogart.

Bogart said the township has been looking into the situation for years because of concerns from residents about flooding.
“We understand the road has to be closed in this location in major storms,” he said. “A couple families have been affected where stormwater coming down has entered their home.”

Bogart said one family has built a device around the house that pushes the water out of the house, but causes them to become their own island, unable to get in or out of the building.
“There are other people who have come to the council about this area,” he said.
But, Bogart said, this is a very large project, with pipes in the vicinity of 60 inches in diameter.
The contract with Keller & Kirkpatrick will include survey, design, bidding and inspection for the project. The company will do a study of the Chambers Brook and the impact of flooding in the intersection, looking at design of improvements to reduce the impact and make the area better.
