Chocolate Recalled At Bridgewater Over Risk Of Serious, Life-Threatening Allergic Reaction

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Wegmans Semi–Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils is being recalled at all New Jersey locations, including Bridgewater.

Mellace Family Brands California, Inc. of Warren, OH recalled the product because it contains an undeclared milk allergen, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.(FDA)

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," according to the FDA.

No one has reported becoming ill yet.

The chocolate product was distributed through Wegmans retail stores in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

The Bridgewater store is located at 724 Route 202 in the Bridgewater Towne Center shopping center.

The product is packaged in a plastic tub labeled Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils 18.5oz (1LB 2.5OZ) 524g, UPC 0 77890 49787 6, SCC 10077890497873.

Best By and Lot code are located on the left side of the tub.

The chocolate was distributed in packaging that did not disclose the prescence of milk. An investigation found that this was caused by a temporary breakdown in the suppliers’ manufacturing process.

Consumers who have purchased Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils 18.5oz (1LB 2.5OZ) 524g with the above lot codes are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
