Caldwell College Softball Nationally Ranked in Top 25

The Cougars ended the spring season with a 45-12 record.

The Caldwell College softball team is ranked 24th in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll of the season.

Coached by Dean Johnson, the Cougars have appeared in the Top 25 Poll nine times in 2013 and were ranked 17th and 20th earlier this season.

Caldwell ended the spring season with a 45-12 record. The regular season included a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference record 28-game winning streak and a 23-3 mark in league play.

In the postseason, the Cougars won the CACC Tournament for the fifth time in program history and the first title since 2008. The CACC championship qualified the team for its ninth NCAA Division II regional in the last 10 years.

Caldwell advanced to the regional final before losing to No. 6 Molloy College, which won the East Region and advanced to the NCAA Division II Softball National Championship.

Central Oklahoma, the 2013 Division II national champions, was ranked first in the poll. Other East Region teams in the final poll besides Caldwell and Molloy were No. 14 Adelphi and New Haven, which received votes.

This year's team also featured catcher Alyssa Calderon, of Fontana, Calf., who has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-American second team. She became the seventh softball player to receive All-American honors in the history of Caldwell College.
