UPDATE: Caldwell Republicans Sweep Municipal Elections, Mayor Dassing Gains Another Term

All four Republican candidates in Caldwell secured seats on the Caldwell Township Council. Mayor Ann Dassing secured another four-year term.

Caldwell Republicans have once again come out on top this year, with Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing defeating Councilman Frank Rodgers and securing another four year term. Mayor Dassing walked away with 52 percent of vote, just 100 votes more than Rodgers.

Fellow Caldwell Republicans Kristian Brown and John Cascarano are celebrating their victories this evening, having defeated Democrats Susan Vezza and Stephen Flack for the two open seats on the Caldwell Township Council. The Republican winners had a combined 53 percent of the vote.

In the Board of Education elections, John J. King beat Ronald F. Goltsch, Jr. for the single open seat on the Caldwell Board of Ed in a landslide, 1,970 to 844 votes.

Caldwell and West Caldwell will each have election races tomorrow, as Caldwell Mayor Dassing faces democratic opposition in her bid for re-election, and council candidates run for open seats in each town.

North Caldwell’s election is uncontested as Republican Mayor Joseph H. Alessi runs unopposed for his second four-year term, and Republican Council members Cynthia Santomauro and John Chiaia run to renew their terms, which were set to expire in December.

Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing will defend her seat against Councilman Frank Rodgers tomorrow. Fellow Republicans Kris Brown and John Cascarano are competing against Democrats Susan Vezza and Stephen Flack for two open seats on the Caldwell Township Council.

They Mayor’s race in West Caldwell is uncontested as Mayor Joseph Tempesta, a Republican, runs unopposed in his fifth four-year term. On the Council, Republicans Michael Doctoroff, an incumbent, and Kathy Canale, a newcomer to local government are running for two open seats.

Board of Education elections will also be held tomorrow. John J. King and Ronald F. Goltsch, Jr. will compete for one open seat in the Caldwell-West Caldwell school district. Dawn Smith and Anthony J. Rubnich are running for seats in the West Essex Regional School district. Finally, Valenez Buccino and Mary E. Mokris are running for seats in the North Caldwell school district.
