Celebrate Earth Day—Enter 'Trees Are Terrific' Contest

The Caldwell Environmental Commission is accepting entries in their "Trees are Terrific" Contest.

“Trees are terrific!” is the theme of the Caldwell Environmental Commission’s Earth Day/Arbor Day 2013 Contest, according to Chairman Ann Marchioni.

To broaden its reach, the contest is open to all Caldwell residents this year, Marchioni said, as well as Caldwell-West Caldwell students in age categories ranging from kindergarten through college.

Grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 are asked to answer the question, “What is your favorite tree and why?” with their submission. The winner in each of these categories will receive $25.

Grades 9-12, college students and residents are posed the questions, “What is the value of trees? How do they inspire us?” The winner in these categories will receive $40.

Entries could be anything from a poster or an essay up to 300 words to a video, a diorama, or a photo with a description.

All entries must be marked with the name, grade, school and home phone number of the entrant and received by Friday, April 26, at 4:30 p.m., at Caldwell Borough Hall, 1 Provost Square, or by Saturday, April 27, between 9 a.m. and noon, at the Caldwell Public Library.

Winners will be announced at a special Tree Day celebration to be held on Saturday, May 4. Prizes will be distributed at the Tuesday, May 7 council meeting.
