First Members Inducted into James Caldwell High's Latin Honor Society

'This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time,' said Latin teacher and club adviser Dr. Christopher Trause.

The first 12 James Caldwell High School students were recently inducted into the newly formed Latin Honor Society.

The ceremony was held on June 10 at the school and was led by the World Languages Department Coordinator for Classical Languages, Latin teacher and club adviser Dr. Christopher Trause.

“This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time,” said Trause. “One of my students helped to get this organized and in place. I hope to do even more with the society next year.”

To become a member, students must maintain an A average in the Latin course, be a member in good standing of the National Junior Classical League and exemplify good citizenship.

Society members come from the NJCL, which annually extends membership to more than 50,000 students of Latin worldwide. The NJCL is composed of local and state chapters and is the largest classical organization in the world today. Its purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome.
