North Caldwell Approves PSE&G Plan
Borough's Zoning Board of Adjustment votes in favor of upgrading nine electrical towers.

North Caldwell is the latest municipality to approve PSE&G's plans to upgrade overhead transmission systems as part of the utility company's Northeast Grid Reliability Project.
North Caldwell's Zoning Board of Adjustment unanimously approved the upgrade of nine towers in the borough on Wednesday night, according to a report in The Progress.
Residents who live in proximity to the existing towers expressed safety and health concerns throughout the hearings of PSE&G's application, which began back in September.

The Northeast Grid Reliability Project will increase 25 miles of transmission lines, including those in North Caldwell, from 138,000 to 230,000 volts.
"The upgrade will deliver increased electric capacity required by New Jersey business and residents, increase transfer capability, provide better power quality, and reduce transmission system congestion," according to the utility company.

The project will upgrade 50 miles of overhead transmission from the Hudson Switching Station in Jersey City to the Roseland Switching Station in Roseland.
