Real Life 'Downton Abbey', Skate for Cystic Fibrosis and More This Weekend

Food historian presents Edwardian Manor lecture in West Caldwell.

Food historian Judith Krall-Russo will present a lecture titled “Life at the Edwardian Manor,” inspired by the award-winning TV series “Downton Abbey,” in the Community Room of the West Caldwell Public Library, 30 Clinton Road. Learn about the wealthy aristocrats who owned huge manor houses and reveled in luxury, leisure, and extravagant entertaining during England’s Edwardian era. The culture, manners and customs of this period’s elite will be the focus of the program. A reception of period food, provided by the Friends of the Library, will follow the program. Join Matthew and Mitchell's Crew for an open skating session at Clary Anderson Arena in Montclair and help us raise money for Cystic Fibrosis charities. All proceeds for this event will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Mauli Ola Foundation. Skate on the open ice at Clary Anderson with friends. Stay until the end to watch a special Figure Skating performance by Mackenzie, dedicated to her brothers and those with CF. Tickets purchased at the door will be $25. Complimentary skate rentals and walkers are available at no extra charge, but availability is limited.

Holocaust Rememberence Day: Yom Hashoah Service

The Yom Hashoah service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield on Sunday, April 7th. It is open to the public. This year's annual Yom HaShoah / Holocaust Remembrance Day service will be hosted by Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield. The interfaith service is held each year to honor the memories of those who perished in the Nazi genocide. Our guest speaker will be Paul Janeczko, a writer and poet who teaches at the University of Southern Maine. He will be accompanied by two young adults in reading from his poems about the Holocaust and its victims.  Additionally, this year's memorial will include music from PSALMS ("Partners in Social Action through Learning Music with Spirit"), an interfaith choir.
