This is a unique opportunity for those interested in the history of the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, Grover Cleveland, and his connection to the town of Caldwell. Boxed lunches and the special 100th Anniversary cake will be served to the participants. Dr. David Cowell, president of the GCBMA’s Board of Trustees and a noted New Jersey historian, will begin the proceedings with a brief talk on the origins of the GCBMA and how it preserves the legacy of Caldwell-born President Grover Cleveland. On display will be the new plans and drawings of the proposed carriage house and visitor center.

"Shakespeare on Stage: A Recitation Contest"

As part of "Much Ado About Something: A Shakespeare Festival," sponsored by the West Caldwel Public Library and James Caldwell High School, the library will present “Shakespeare on Stage: A Recitation Contest” in the Community Room. Middle School and High School students as well as adults will present memorized soliloquies or monologues from one of Shakespeare’s plays. They will be critiqued by a panel of judges and prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner-up in each category (adult, high school student and middle school student). Each soliloquy or monologue must be no longer than 5 minutes in length and contestants must register in advance by calling 973-226-5441.

The Cloverleaf Taven will offer a special menu from Thursday through Sunday, including corned beef, cottage pie, Irish stew and green beer, and Irish soda bread went on sale earlier this week. The festivities start at 9:30 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day with a "breakfast of champions" and there will be live music and bagpipers throughout the day. The Oratorio Society of New Jersey, under the direction of Dr. Sándor Szabó, will present Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle on Saturday, March 16, at 8 pm at Immaculate Conception Church, 30 North Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ. Joining the Oratorio Society chorus for this performance will be soloists Laura Green (soprano), Robyn Frye (mezzo-soprano), Will Erat (tenor), and Robert Mobsby (baritone), organist Donald DuLaney, and pianist Albert Stanziano. Dr. Szabó will also perform Rossini's Scherzo in A minor on the piano. Admission to the concert is $20, and tickets may be purchased at the door.

The New Spirit: American Art in the Armory Show, 1913 marks the 100-year anniversary of the famous and controversial 1913 exhibition of modern art at the 69th Regiment Armory building in New York City. While American art constituted the majority of works in the show, it was the European art that caused a stir and has dominated discussion of the Armory Show ever since. Opening exactly one hundred years after the original show, the exhibition at the Montclair Art Museum will be the first to focus primarily on American artists represented in the show.
