What Should Move to 307 Bloomfield Ave.?

The building that formally housed Valley National Bank has been empty since 2008.

It's now been more than five years since the former Valley National Bank, located at 307 Bloomfield Ave., shuttered its doors. So in this installment of Visions for Vacancies, The Caldwells Patch asks: What do you think should move into the building?

All possibilities are on the table. We ask you to forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump-lot coverage rules, and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

The two-story lime-green building is located in the heart of Caldwell's busy business district. Whatever moves in will have plenty of available parking: there is a municipal parking lot located behind the building and there is on-street metered parking in front.

The bank moved out in 2008. In fact, a sign hanging on the front door reads, "Attention Customers: As of April 1, 2008, this office will close permanently." An electrical fire also broke out in the empty building in 2011.

The Caldwells have plenty of banks, so let's take that off the table. What could the Caldwells really use? There are plenty of former movie theaters, banks and even churches that have been converted into boutiques or stores.
