The literary magazine was awarded a silver medal by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the 2013-2014 edition of The Roundtable.

The West Essex High School literary magazine staff has been awarded a prestigious Silver Medal award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the Spring 2014 edition of The Roundtable.

The 2013-2014 editorial staff includes Editor-in-Chief Athena Marousis, a senior from Fairfield; Editor Ann-Marie Lee, a senior from Roseland; and assistant editors Miranda Lichtenstein and Isabel Parzecki, juniors from Roseland.

The Roundtable is open to all students for submissions, features student-produced works of creative writing, and works of art. The school prints one edition every year.

This is not the first award for “The Roundtable.” The 2012-2013 edition earned a Gold Medalist Certificate from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in the Medalist Critique Category.

The literary magazine receives many wonderful submissions, due to the West Essex English teachers, who inspire their students and really know how to help their students become better writers, Editor-in-Chief, Athena Marousis stated.

Marousis added that it is very difficult to select the works to be published, due to the quality and quantity of submissions.

In addition, art teachers and art students create drawings and illustrations to go with the literary pieces in the magazine.

Supervisor Morse said she is thrilled that the literary magazine has been recognized again. The magazine received a gold medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in 2009, a gold medal ranking in 2010, and a silver ranking in 2011.

The 2011 Roundtable was also received a “superior” ranking from the National Council of Teachers of English.

“I want to thank all of the English teachers for all of the hard work they do,” Morse added.

Extra copies of the 2014 edition are available in the library and the English Department.
