CHATHAM, NJ — The School Districts of the Chathams plans on different observances and activities on Friday, Sept. 10, the day before the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Superintendent Dr. Michael LaSusa discussed the observances during his update at the beginning of the School District of the Chathams’ Board of Education meeting on Monday, Aug. 23.

With the actual anniversary that Saturday, Sept. 11, LaSusa said on the Friday before it, all schools within the district plan to observe a moment of silence.

During the day, discussion and instruction that are “age appropriate,” will take place in classrooms within the School District of the Chathams, about the events on Sept. 11, 2001.

LaSusa said he intends to send out a district-wide letter to families before the school district observances happen, because some students “have been personally affected by 9-11.”

“We want to give everyone a heads-up that that will be going on in the classrooms,” LaSusa added.

On the following day in Chatham Borough, the Chatham 9/11 Memorial Foundation will host their 9/11 ceremony, beginning at the Chatham Train Station, by the memorial dedicated to those who never came back home to the Chathams, because of the attacks. Click here for details about that ceremony.
