Chatham Student Donates Hair to Locks of Love

By Corkie Ziegler

Chatham High School senior Karinna Wildauer, 18, donated 3, 10-inch ponytails to the Locks of Love organization on January 7th.  Karinna has volunteered for several service organizations in the community and knows what's like to give of her time and energy to worthy causes.  But, this time, she wanted to make a more personal donation.

After talking to a neighbor who had been involved in Locks of Love, Karinna decided to have her hair cut and donate it to an ill child who could perhaps feel that a stranger truly cared enough to make such a personal donation.

In speaking with her hairdresser, Agnes Daraban of Renaissance Salon, Karinna found out that the owner of Renaissance, Robin Longo, had actually been involved in several other hair donation organizations in the area.  Sensing that this was a good sign, Karinna donated 3, 10-inch ponytails on Saturday, January 7th.

"The way I think about it, everyone who is healthy and able to offer aid to those in need should try to find a way to help," said Wildauer.  "There may be a time when tables are turned and I need help from others.  I believe in paying it forward," added Karinna.
