Greening the Town

Courtesy of Sue Hoag:

On St. Patrick’s Day, while others were celebrating the green with parades, members of the Chatham Township Open Space Committee did their own “greening”. In August 2011 The Township acquired almost 18 acres of open space, bordering Southern Blvd. at Snake Hill, River Road and Hillside Ave. from Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Averett. Susan Rigal, Sarah Fechtner and Sue Hoag, spent the morning cleaning up the parcel and collected over 8 bags of trash from along the roadside. It is through this property that the Open Space committee is considering building a nature trail.

The next cleanup of Township Open Space land will be sponsored by the Chatham Township Environmental Commission. On Saturday, April 21, 2012, 9:30 AM-12:30 PM, the Commission will hold their 10th annual cleanup. This year it will be on property along Green Village Road. For more information go to the Chatham Township website (www.chathamtownship.org) and click on the link for the cleanup.
