Visit Chatham Borough's Fire Department During Fire Prevention Week Open House

CHATHAM, NJ — As part of raising awareness about fire prevention, the Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department is opening its doors for an open house on Saturday, in honor of Fire Prevention Week.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 9 at 1 Firehouse Plaza, residents can come by to see the borough’s fire trucks and equipment. There will additionally be a demonstration on how the fire department works to remove people trapped in their cars. Click here for more about the open house.

Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department is additionally hosting its Community Appreciation Day on Saturday at its headquarters on 495 River Road, from 2 to 7 p.m., with food trucks, live music, a beer and wine garden for the adults attending and a bounce house and slide for the kids.

The Green Village Fire Department, which also services Chatham Township, already hosted their open house on Oct. 3.

Fire Prevention Week is coordinated yearly by the National Fire Protection Association, to stress the importance in testing smoke alarms, placing them on every floor in one’s home, putting in fresh batteries once annually and even buying new smoke detectors every 10 years.

Families, should also have a fire escape plan in their homes, in preparation for the potential of a fire, with two routes out from each room and a central meeting location established.
