Chatham Borough Police Warn Against Phone Scams
IRS and police donation scams have hit the borough, police said.
CHATHAM BOROUGH, NJ — IRS and police department donation phone scams have hit the borough, and Chatham Borough Police are warning residents not to fall for them.
Neither the IRS or the police department will ask for money over the phone, police said. If the IRS needs to connect money, they will send a letter through registered mail. Anyone who gets a call from someone claiming to be the IRS should just hang up. If someone comes to your door, don't open and call police instead.
Similarly, police will never call your home or business looking for donations.
