Chatham COVID-19 Count For October Finalized

CHATHAM, NJ — During the month of October, there were 38 Chatham Borough residents who tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the 2021 total to 415, according to Chatham Borough officials.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 660 Chatham Borough residents have had positive COVID tests.

Of October’s cases, there were eight children younger than 12 years of age and six cases with “a recent history of travel outside the contiguous states.”

“We are encouraging non-vaccinated residents to quarantine after travel per CDC guidelines,” said Chatham Borough Administrator Stephen Williams, a spokesperson for the borough.

In the final few days of the month, Oct. 28 to 31, five residents tested positive for COVID. Among those individuals, one was under the age of 11 and four were older than 21.

According to the borough’s health officer, since the start of the pandemic, here are the case counts per age, with the mean age of those testing positive, 36 years old:

In September, Chatham Borough reported that 28 residents tested positive overall, with 13 among them considered “breakthrough cases,” meaning they had their full course of vaccines and then contracted the virus, though none of them were reportedly hospitalized; and had “mild to moderate” COVID symptoms.

September additionally saw one fatality from COVID among borough residents, bringing the total deaths in Chatham Borough from the illness to 11, since the start of the pandemic.
