Get To Know Chatham Student Support Superintendent's Vision At 'SEPAG' Event
The Special Education Parent Advisory Group is meeting this coming Tuesday, with a question and answer format a part of the meeting.
CHATHAM, NJ — The School District of the Chathams’ Special Education Parent Advisory Group has planned a meeting for families who would like to get to know the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, Dr. Emily Sortino.
The meeting is scheduled in the Chatham High School Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m., with SEPAG announcing that at the meeting, attendees will get to know Sortino’s “vision for special education” for the district.

Chatham’s SEPAG, which calls itself “A Voice for Chatham Special Education,” indicates on its website that about 20 percent of students within the School District of the Chathams, have an "Individualized Education Plan" or IEP, to help guide them through their academic journeys.
The group’s mission is to be representatives for families with students that are obtaining “special education services through the School District of the Chathams,” according to its website.

Chatham SEPAG’s website offers help for parents on a range of topics, with a bevy of support resources for disabilities students may face, including Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism and the Autism Spectrum, Dyslexia, communication disorders, emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual and developmental disorders and other types of disabilities.
The group can help parents navigate with an educational section about IEPs, guides about Special Education programs in New Jersey, acronyms for Special Education and more.
SEPAG additionally provides families with information about recreational program opportunities that are inclusive within the region for children with disabilities, whether it’s baseball, soccer, artistic programs, accessible playgrounds, activities that are inclusive and sensory, museums and more.
