Chatham Turkey Trot Draws Over 1K Runners For Good Cause (Photos)
More than $40,000 was raised for diabetes research, first responders and education on Thanksgiving Day during Chatham's yearly Turkey Trot.
CHATHAM, NJ — The number of people who ran or walked in the 13th annual Chatham Turkey Trot, some in festive costumes, was more than 1,000 strong this past Thanksgiving Day.
Curt Ritter, its founder and president, called it the “most successful year in terms of participation and funds raised.”

“As a result, we raised more than $40,000 for our first responders and diabetes research and education, bringing our total raised since 2009 to more than $230,000,” Ritter said in a news release following Thursday’s race.
The Chatham Turkey Trot benefits the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Chatham Emergency Squad.

With both a USA Track & Field certified 5K and 1 mile fun run, here were the top finishers of both races:
5K Winners:
- Men: Alec Gironda 16:54
- Women: Alison Dougherty 19:50
- Boy: Rocco Loomis 19:56
- Girl: Ella Farwell 22:51
1 Mile Winners:
- Boy: Jack Cross 5:01
- Girl: Hazel Cignarella 6:06
