Chatham's Well Water Test Results Announced

Traces of seven chemicals were found, but none rose to the level of needing remediation.

CHATHAM, N.J. – With the numerous crises around the country – including in New Jersey – regarding tainted water, reports of quality testing are being monitored more closely than ever.

Chatham Borough has released its findings from its 2015 annual test for chemicals including everything from arsenic to nitrate, and the results are in.

There were no violations for seven chemicals tested, including arsenic, barium, chromium, copper, fluoride, lead, and nitrate. While those seven contaminants were detected – the borough tests for more than 80 substances – their levels were not high enough to warrant a problem.

Chatham Borough has three wells that are more than 150 feet deep and draw groundwater from the Buried Valley Aquifer of the Central Passaic River Basin. The wells are located at the Public Works Complex near the Chatham Middle School.
