More Than 14 Charges For Man Who Took Chatham Borough Police On Car, Foot Chase
A Chatham Borough Police Officer ended up apprehending the unidentified man after a late night foot chase in the borough.
CHATHAM, NJ — A 21-year-old man faces more than 14 charges in Chatham Borough after he drove through with a stolen car, then crashed it after a police pursuit, which ended following a foot chase.
The unidentified man from Newark came into contact with police, according to a Chatham Borough Police Department news release, on Sept. 23 at about 2:30 a.m., when the responding officer overheard radio communications from Chatham Township, discussing a suspicious vehicle that had passed through there.
After Chatham Borough Police Officer Kyle Czerniak spotted the car matching the description of the radio transmission on the borough’s Main Street by Lafayette Avenue, Czerniak began pursuing the driver on Main Street. After the driver crashed the car, Czerniak apprehended him following a foot pursuit.

According to the news release from the Borough Police Department’s spokesperson Michael Bochniak, the man was charged with having the stolen car, as well as 14 unspecified driving-related charges, after he had been taken to the hospital and was released from there.
Bochniak said the man is presently lodged at the Morris County Correctional Facility, as he waits on a court date.
