Jaycees Get Set for 35th Fishawack Run

New T-shirt design unveiled Monday at Borough Council meeting.

 

Bill Heap and Brian Hart of the Chatham Jaycees appeared before the Council Tuesday to show them the design for the 2012 Fishawack Run.

"This is the first year they've been purple," Hart, the race director, said. "We're also going to hang a race quilt made out of [T-shirts] from the last 35 years at ."

Those who wish to run in the 35th Fishawack Run can drop off their registration forms and fees at two locations, in Madison and in Chatham.

"We expect it to be a big event," Heap said. , with nearly 800 runners, and Heap said "we expect a similar number this year.

Participants in the race will also receive a discount coupon attached to their race number, which can be redeemed for 10 percent off their next purchase at Starting Line Sports.

Registration fees for the one-mile family race and the four-mile race before Wednesday are $20 for adults, $15 for children 15 years and younger. Beginning Friday, all race registration fees are $25. All children 12 and under are delegated to the one-mile race, which begins at 9 a.m.

If you forget to register in advance of the race, registration begins at 8 a.m. in the southern parking lot of the . 

Sponsors and supporters of the race include (employees will be wearing Fishawack T-shirts by Friday, Hart said), J. Weber Design, Coldwell Banker, Guardian Life, Intermedium Financial, Pfizer and .

There will be a prize for the person wearing the oldest Fishawack Run T-shirt, and for the first place in different age groups in the four-mile race, and men and women who come in first, second and third place in both races.

There will be limited day-of registration on June 9 at the booth near . Custom T-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 300 registered runners.

Proceeds from the race benefit the , the Boy and Girl Scouts, the and various PTOs and scholarship funds.

Following the race will be the Fishawack awards ceremony, which includes the Mayor's Award for outstanding volunteerism. Mayor Bruce Harris, in a veiled reference to his , said, "If I am mayor that day, I will be there."
