Man Hit by Car Outside Deli

A 32-year-old Plainfield man was injured in Saturday morning crash, Chatham police said.

A 32-year-old Plainfield man suffered leg and elbow injuries after being struck by a car outside a River Road deli around 7 a.m. Saturday, Chatham police said.

The man was walking to his car after picking up breakfast at 5K Deli when a driver traveling northbound crashed in him and his car, police said.

The man was taken to Morristown Medical Center and both vehicles appeared to be totaled, Sgt. Daryle Kelly said. Police said the man might have jumped onto the trunk of his car to try to get out of the way.

The driver, a Roselle woman, was not injured and she told police her brakes were not working, Kelly said. Police found the brakes worked when they tested them after the accident, he said.

Authorities still are investigating and charges are pending, Kelly said.
