Over Half Fully Vaccinated Among Chatham Borough's 37 Positive COVID Cases In August
Among them, 19 were fully vaccinated adults, with 12 remaining cases in residents under the age of 18.
CHATHAM, NJ — Within the final few days of August, seven residents came up positive for COVID testing, for a total of 37 cases within the month.
According to a news release from the Borough, which as of early August the borough had a vaccination rate of 97 percent for residents older than 18, slightly over half of August’s cases were among adults over the age of 18 who had received their full course of COVID vaccines.
“For August, Chatham saw 37 COVID cases, up from 10 in July,” Borough Administrator Stephen W. Williams summarized. “Nineteen positive cases were in residents who were identified as being fully vaccinated.”

“Twelve of August’s cases were in children under 18,” Williams added.
Seven new cases were counted in between Aug. 27 and 31, Chatham Borough’s health officer stated, which brought the year-to-date total to 348; and total since the pandemic start in March 2020 to 593.

Within the last four days of August, one resident who tested COVID-positive was under the age of 11, one was between 12 and 20 and five were older than 21.
Chatham’s age range of positive cases within those who tested positive between Aug. 27 and 31, has varied from seven to 88, with the mean age 36-years-old. Since the pandemic began, there have been 13 hospitalizations and 10 fatalities, attributed to COVID-19, among Chatham Borough residents.
In the previous group of COVID-positive between Aug. 20 and 26, there were six residents, two under 11 and four over 21.
Between Aug. 1 and Aug 19, there were 24 total new COVID cases borough-wide, between the ages of seven and 77, with five under the age of 11, four between 12 and 20 and 15 over the age of 21.

31-40 - 60 cases

51-60 - 97 cases
61-70 - 27 cases
71-80 - 19 cases
81-90 - 9 cases
91+ - 5 cases
The borough’s health officer recommends that residents can stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing masks when they feel there’s a need, frequently washing their hands, sanitizing high touch surfaces and staying at home if feeling under the weather.
