BOE to Vote on Fmr. Madison Coach for AD

Also, the board will vote on a resignation of George Alexis, co-vice principal at Chatham High.

The will vote on whether to approve a contract for William Librera to serve as the athletic director and supervisor of health and physical education at when they meet Monday.

Librera is the former head basketball coach from Madison High School, where he also taught mathematics and was an assistant coach on the boys lacrosse team. Before teaching in Madison he taught for five years at Morris Central High School in Chester. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics economics and a master's degree in mathematics education, both from Columbia University.

Librera is the son of a former New Jersey Commissioner of Education, Dr. William Librera, who worked with the district to help find a suitable new assistant superintendent. The search ended in March when the board approved Karen Chase for the role.

The vote comes six months after took over the role of athletic director a Chatham High, following the . Korsak was unanimously approved as the district's first female athletic director.

The board will also vote on whether to approve the resignation of 's co-vice principal George Alexis when they meet Monday.

Alexis was by the . A graduate of Watchung Hills himself, Alexis was taught Modern European History in high school by Thomas DiGanci, the current principal whose shoes he will be stepping into.

"I can't think of an opportunity that would be more meaningful," Alexis told the Watchung Hills Regional school board. "As I think about my past and the influences that have helped me learn and grow, it all comes back to Watchung Hills High School."

He said his appointment was "like coming home." 

Alexis was named the English supervisor in Chatham in 2002 and promoted to co-vice principal in 2010.

The Board of Education in Chatham must now seek a replacement for Alexis, as well as a new athletic supervisor for the high school and a new principal for Chatham Middle School.

Athletic Coaches

The board will also vote on several people for fall and winter coaches, including:

This will be Palmer's third year as the head fencing coach. Ascolese is a current district staff member, and Mason's salary will be funded by parents.
