Verizon Working on Boro Police's Down Phone Lines

Residents can call (973) 635-8001 to reach police, or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

The is currently experiencing difficulties with their telephone system, according to Lt. Brian Gibbons.

Verizon is currently working on restoring service to the main telephone number for the police department, but there is no estimate on what time the issue should be repaired.

Residents who need to reach the police can call (973) 635-8001 to reach the shift supervisor, and anyone in an emergency can call 9-1-1.

Gibbons also said these problems have also caused issues with the emergency siren at the . Beginning at about Thursday, the siren went off "a few times" for several minutes, Gibbons said.

The siren is not indicative of any emergency and residents do not need to be concerned.

"Currently, Police Personnel and Fire Personnel are working together to rectify the problem and we are in contact with a representative of Verizon," police said.
