‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Might Be Coming To Chatham

"Isle of the Dead," the upcoming AMC spinoff of zombie drama "The Walking Dead," might be filming some scenes in Chatham.

CHATHAM, NJ — The massively popular AMC franchise "The Walking Dead," which is now in its fifth series spinoff, could be coming to Chatham.

The new spinoff is reportedly filming in several areas around North Jersey, with production taking place in East Rutherford, according to the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission.

At a recent township committee meeting, the committee also passed a resolution authorizing Chatham Township Administrator Ziad Shehady and township attorney Peter King to negotiate access for AMC to film a pilot on municipal property.

According to Mayor Ashley Felice, AMC is requesting permission to film a "Walking Dead" spinoff pilot at the now-closed Charlie Brown's Restaurant at 522 Southern Blvd.

The six-part series, created by showrunner Eli Jorné and Scott Gimple, is slated for a 2023 premiere and will star Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan Smith.

Maggie and Negan will roam a post-apocalyptic Manhattan in the show, which Cohan and Morgan are co-producing. The characters are cut off from the mainland and stranded in New York, a "crumbling city" populated by the walking dead, according to AMC.

Chatham has recently become a popular location for film productions, as The Fair Mount Cemetery, located at 233 Hillside Avenue, was transformed into a movie set earlier this summer as filming for the fifth installment of the horror franchise "Insidious" continued.
