3 Firefighters Suffer Heat Exhaustion During Cherry Hill House Fire

The fire significantly damaged the home and displaced the residents.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion during a fire that significantly damaged a house and displaced several people Monday night in Cherry Hill.

First responders were dispatched at 11:03 p.m. to Webster Avenue. Firefighters reached the scene two minutes later, said Cherry Hill Fire Chief Wade Houlihan.

At least four residents were home when the fire broke out, Houlihan told Patch. They evacuated the house before firefighters arrived.

The fire traveled up into the attic, creating a "pretty significant obstacle" for firefighters as they extinguished it, Houlihan said.

Three firefighters were treated for injuries related to heat exhaustion.

"Two have been released from the hospital and are doing well," Houlihan said. "One is just awaiting further evaluation, but all are stable and are expected to make a full recovery."

Family members and the Red Cross are helping the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
