Cooper Health Named Among America's Best For Prostate Surgeries
Cooper University Health Care has been recognized as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries, according to new research.
Cooper University Health Care has been recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems, the health care system announced.
Cooper was also recognized in the rankings as a Five-Star Hospital for Coronary Bypass Surgery and Total Hip Replacement. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.
“It is with great pride that Cooper earns another national recognition for clinical excellence,” Cooper co-CEO Kevin O’Dowd said. “This latest recognition is further validation of Cooper’s expertise and steadfast commitment to the highest quality standards, safety, coordination of care, and patient outcomes.”

“Cooper continues to earn national recognition in a number of specialties as a direct result of our highly skilled and dedicated clinical and support teams, who are committed to providing the highest level of care to each and every patient,” Cooper co-CEO Anthony J. Mazzarelli said.
For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 31 common conditions and procedures and evaluated outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 16 states.

Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality.
Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected), and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected).
In the latest Healthgrades specialty rankings, Cooper earned the following clinical achievements:
- Recipient of the Healthgrades 2022 Prostate Surgery Excellence Award
- Named Among the Top 5% in the Nation for Prostate Surgery in 2022
- Named Among the Top 10% in the Nation for Prostate Surgery in 2022
- Five-Star Recipient for Prostate Removal Surgery for 2 Years in a Row (2021-2022)
- Five-Star Recipient for Coronary Bypass Surgery in 2022
- Five-Star Recipient for Total Hip Replacement in 2022
Being recognized among Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries is a prestigious honor. From 2018-2020, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America's 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgery Award have, on average, a 54.6 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, according to officials.
Additionally, from 2018-2020, patients treated at hospitals that did not receive the America's 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgery Award were, on average, 2.20 times more likely to experience one or more complications in the hospital than if they were treated at hospitals that did receive the award, officials said.
