Fire Engulfs Row Of Buildings In Camden, Creating Thick Smoke Visible From Miles Away
The dark cloud of smoke could be seen from the Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park.
CAMDEN, NJ — A fire heavily damaged multiple Camden buildings, creating a thick cloud of smoke seen from miles away on Sunday.
The blaze broke out around 3 p.m. around Carman and 16th streets. A detached garage and a one-story commercial property, which seems to be an office, were heavily damaged, said Camden Fire Chief Jesse M. Flax.
The roof of a four-story warehouse attached to the office also had a well-involved fire.

Two residential buildings next to the warehouse were evacuated, but the fire didn't spread to them, Flax told Patch.
Smoke from the fire was visible from Citizens Bank Park during the Philadelphia Phillies game.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
Investigators are working to determine who owns the buildings, which appear to be vacant, Flax said Monday morning.
The Camden Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause. They're also determining how the fire got so heavy on the four-story warehouse's roof with next-to-no damage inside the warehouse.
"The first floor had a little bit of fire on it, and it could have went up a pipe chase," Flax said. "But again, I want allow the investigators to make that determination."
