Hundreds Of Trees To Be Planted In Cherry Hill

The seedlings will be planted in public spaces, and hundreds will be available for residents to plant at their homes.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — More than 500 trees will get planted in Cherry Hill this spring under a new township initiative.

Hundreds of residents will receive seedlings to plant on their properties, while 120 trees will be planted in parks and open spaces in the "Branching Out" program.

The township identified 13 public spaces that would benefit from new trees. The Department of Public Works and volunteers with the Cherry Hill Environmental Board will plant 120 trees in these locations during the spring. DPW crews will plant additional trees in township parks this fall.

Branching Out is funded through the township's tree ordinance and tree fund. The ordinance requires contractors and developers to either pay into the fund or plant a new tree for each tree they remove.

"Branching Out is a unique initiative that will improve our environment, enhance existing green spaces and give residents the opportunity to plant roots for the future," said Mayor Dave Fleisher. "I am pleased to be able to deliver for our community a greener Cherry Hill."
