Man Stabs 2 People At Cherry Hill Home, Hospitalizing Both Victims: Prosecutor

The suspect's charges include first-degree attempted murder.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A man was charged with first-degree attempted murder after authorities say he stabbed and injured two people he lives with, leaving one of the victims in critical condition Saturday in Cherry Hill.

Pietro Cancello stabbed a man and a woman, both 58, at their home on the 100 block of Valleybrook Road, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Police were called to the home just before 3 a.m. Saturday. At the scene, the male victim was found with multiple stab wounds, while the female victim sustained a wound that wasn't life-threatening, authorities said.

Both victims were brought to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where the man was reported in critical but stable condition. The woman was treated and released.

Investigators identified Cancello, 29, as the suspect and arrested him at the crime scene. He was brought to the hospital for evaluation and then jailed.

Cancello lived in the Valleybrook Road home with both victims, according to the prosecutor's office. No further details about his relationship to them have been released, and no motive has been disclosed.

There is no threat to the public, officials said.

Cancello was charged with the following:

  • attempted murder (first-degree)
  • aggravated assault (second-degree)
  • aggravated assault on a victim of domestic violence (third-degree)
  • aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (third-degree)
  • possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (third-degree)
  • unlawful possession of a weapon (fourth-degree)
  • reckless aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (fourth-degree)

The suspect will remain jailed in the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending the results of a future detention hearing.

Cancello didn't have a listed attorney in online court records on Monday.
