Pennsauken Man Had Drugs, Gun in Fairview, Police Say

A Pennsauken man who tried to run from officers after getting caught with 85 bags of heroin and a loaded gun in Fairview Friday was arrested and faces multiple charges, Camden County Police said.

Officers Rocco Belloni and Christian Jeffries stopped Devron Lampkin, 28, near the intersection of Constitution and Hornet roads just after 3 p.m., and spotted drugs inside the car he was driving, police said.

Lampkin, who was asked to step out of the car, took off running, but was caught after a brief chase, police said.

In addition to the heroin and a loaded F.I. Industries .380-caliber handgun that had its serial number removed, Lampkin, who has previous arrests for assault and drug charges, had 14 bags of cocaine and three jars of marijuana in the car, police said.

“This was a significant arrest in that our officers took drugs and a gun off the streets of our city,” said said Chief J. Scott Thomson in a statement. “Targeting those who illegally possess firearms, thereby jeopardizing all our residents, remains our highest priority.”

Lampkin was charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to have weapons, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and resisting arrest.

He was lodged in the Camden County Jail in default of $200,000 bail.
