Teenage Boy Shot, Killed In Camden Home; Nature Of Shooting Unknown: Prosecutor

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances around the gunfire.

CAMDEN, NJ — A teenage boy died after getting shot Friday afternoon at a Camden home, authorities said. The nature of the shooting is under investigation.

Police responded around 12:35 p.m. for a report of a person shot at a home on the 1500 block of Thorn Street.

The victim — Xyere Brooks, 16, of Camden — was found inside the home. He was brought to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:15 p.m. Friday.

Multiple juveniles were inside the home during the shooting, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

No charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon.

"Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances under which the firearm was discharged," the agency said.
