The largest-ever Powerball jackpot was a $2.04 billion prize last November. Nobody has won the Powerball jackpot since April 19, when the top prize hit $251 million.
If a New Jersey participant wins the current jackpot, they would crush the record for the largest lottery prize in state history — a $533 million jackpot from a 2018 Mega Millions contest. The winner took the cash option of $324 million, which became nearly $175 million after taxes, according to lotto.com.
Powerball is available in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The drawings occur at 10:59 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Participants must purchase tickets at least an hour before each contest.
