MOUNT HOLLY, NJ — Actress Kristy Swanson has been hospitalized in South Jersey with complications related to the coronavirus.

“Virtua memorial in Mount Holly, NJ, has been incredible,” Swanson wrote on Twitter Monday afternoon. “They are so on top it, and have a wonderful staff.”

Earlier in the day, the star of the original “Buffy, The Vampire Slayer” tweeted that she had been hospitalized with pneumonia and was on oxygen, “all COVID-related, of course. I’m in good spirits and in great hands.”

She said she had COVID-19, but was at the end of her diagnosis when it spread to her lungs. She was being treated with Baricitinib and blood thinners so that her blood doesn’t clot.

Baricitinib is a rheumatoid arthritis drug that was approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about a year ago for use in conjunction with the antiviral drug remdesivir against COVID-19, according to the Los Angeles Times. It was approved for emergency use on its own in July.

Swanson, whose film credits also include “The Chase” and “Dude, Where’s My Car?” among others, was born in Mission Viejo, California. In December 2019, she tweeted that she was moving to New Jersey and that she hoped to get to meet JVD, meaning South Jersey Congressman Jeff Van Drew.

Van Drew made national headlines at that time after he flipped parties from Democrat to Republican rather than vote to impeach then-President Donald Trump. Read more here: NJ Congressman Reportedly Switching From Democrat To Republican

Swanson is an outspoken supporter of the former president. She has worked to discredit the science behind COVID-19 prevention, according to The New York Post.

In 2019, she was part of a stage play about the anti-Trump text exchanges between former FBI agent Peter Strzok and lawyer Lisa Page, according to The Hill.

She received many well-wishes on Twitter, but she also received criticism for her political stances.

“I pray that you get well enough to apologize to the people taking care of you for adding to their burden by not getting vaccinated,” one person wrote. “And that you then spread the word that others should not make your same mistake. Feel better soon.”

“What do you know about my medical or Covid history,” she responded. “I’ll wait.”
