CHS Students Wear Bandanas for Cancer Awareness

The Friends of Rachel Club at Cinnaminson High School sponsored a Bandana Day on Jan. 16 to raise awareness of childhood cancer and raise money to support the Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation, a local charity that provides programs and events to enhance the quality of life for teens living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. 

Alicia Rose DiNatale was 17 years old when she died of a rare form of cancer. Inspired by her spirit and strength of character, her family created the foundation so that Alicia’s mission to help other teens could inspire others and her memory would live on. 

While Alicia was in and out of the hospital for treatments she noticed that while the younger kids had playrooms there was no place for teens to hang out, so they stayed in their rooms alone. The foundation helps to fund and build rooms for teens in pediatric units around the country so they have somewhere to go during their stay in the hospital. It also provides teens with kits filled with age appropriate items and bandana pillows. 

The bandana became a symbol for Alicia because one day in school four of her teachers approached her about removing her “headpiece” because of the school policy. This caused a great deal of anxiety for her especially since she had lost her hair from the many treatments she had to undergo. 

Cinnaminson High School participated in a “Bandana Day” to bring awareness to teens who suffer from cancer and help raise money for Alicia’s foundation. 

Members of the Friends of Rachel Club sold bandanas during lunches from Jan. 10 to Jan. 15 to staff and students. Everyone wore their bandanas on Jan. 16 in support of this cause. 

The Friends of Rachel Club proudly raised $1,431 for the Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation.
