He was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a victim who was physically helpless or mentally incapacitated.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — A Cinnaminson man is facing charges after authorities say he filmed himself sexually assaulting a victim in April.

Nicholas Carrion, 33, was charged April 25 with first-degree aggravated sexual assault. He was charged under a statute accusing him of sexually assaulting a victim who was physically helpless or mentally incapacitated.

Carrion was also charged with invasion of privacy.

He was arrested April 25. But five days later, a judge denied the state's motion to keep Carrion jailed pre-trial.

Township Committee Member Ernest McGill mentioned the incident at May 19's committee meeting. McGill, who serves as the governing body's public-safety liaison, was giving a rundown of recent police and public-safety activity in the township.

"(Cinnaminson Police) Det. Mark Berardis handled an allegation of sexual assault where the suspect video-recorded the act," McGill said. "Through his investigation, he was able to get the suspect to confess."

Police Chief William J. Obuchowski identified Carrion as the suspect to Patch and listed his charges. But Obuchowski said he couldn't provide any further information on the incident as the case remains underway.

Carrion's defense attorney declined comment.

Carrion is set to re-appear in court June 18 for a pre-indictment conference.
