A South Jersey doctor has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing more than $500,000 from his former employer.
A South Jersey doctor has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing more than $500,000 from his former employer to pay his personal expenses, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.
Walter Sytnik, 35, of Voorhees, previously pleaded guilty to an information charging him with one count of mail fraud, according to authorities.
Sytnik was accused of writing fraudulent checks to steal more than $500,000 from a South Jersey medical practice where he worked as a bookkeeper between May 2013 and April 2018, according to documents filed in the case and statements made in court.

He stole checks from the practice, and opened and maintained credit card accounts at the same banks that were used by the doctor at the medical practice, according to authorities.
Sytnik then forged the doctor’s signature on the stolen checks, which he sent through the U.S. Mail to pay his own credit card bills.

When Sytnik ran out of checks, he reordered new ones so that he could continue the fraud, authorities said.
Sytnik has also been sentenced to two years of supervised release, and is being ordered to pay restitution of $415,995.
